Tap (Acoustic) Method

A. Introduction

Non-destructiveTo detect microleaks in hermetically sealed packages by measuring electrical discharges between the food product and device electrodes.Rough microleaksOn-line, > 3/s> $20,000

B. Operation

Tap testing is a common and inexpensive form of inspection. The inspector taps the surface of the test structure and evaluates the sound that is generated. The inspector either listens directly to the sound or uses a specially designed receive to analyze the sound and compare the response with one from a discontinuity-free part.

Acoustic Technology is used to measure pressure or vacuum in containers that do not have a measurable lid deflection-such as beer bottles, coffee bricks, plastic jars with composite closures and milk-based drinks in steel cans. The Acoustic Sensor works by applying a "tap" to the top of the top of each container. The tone response os derectly proportional to the pressure or vacuum inside the container.
