The 2017 IFT-EFFoST International Nonthermal Processing Conference/Workshop and Short Course was very successful due to the excellent presentations by keynote speakers, invited speakers, student presenters and poster presenters and the support of the sponsors, members of the International Scientific Committee and members of the Local Organizing Committee. The IFSH Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) for Food Safety Symposium on September 28, 29 and 30 at Chicago Marriott Southwest at Burr Ridge acted as a catalyst for participants to learn about the fast developing technologies for Whole-Genome Sequencing, the specific applications and benefits of the IFSH WGS project and the services it provides for the food industry, and more. IFSH presented the Darsh Wasan IFSH Food Safety Award to Kurt Deibel, VP of Food Safety & Quality with the North American Kraft Heinz Company, for his outstanding contributions to food safety across government, academia and industry. Dr. Deibel has a long and distinguished history of working with IFSH on a myriad of food safety issues and currently serves on IFSH’s Executive Advisory Board.

Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH) and FDA CFSAN's Division of Food Processing, Science and Technology welcomed over 200 participants to the IFSH 2016 Annual Meeting from industry, government and universities! Our program offered an exclusive keynote address on the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), updates on the FDA/CFSAN strategic plan, a panel on the new Whole Genome Sequencing Initiative and working sessions for the Sprout Safety Alliance and Low Moisture Foods Taskforce meetings, in addition to other sessions.
